Broke my heart to leave the city I mean it broke what wasn't broken in there already Thought of all my great reasons for leaving Now I can't think of any It's true it was a hard time that I've come through It's made me thankful for the blues Half my life spent on a highway Half my life I didn't choose And I have seen the North Star Shining in the freight yard And I knew it was a hard time that it'd come through It's made him thankful for the blues It broke my heart to know you waited I had so many things to do It's true as far as a lot of stuff You could have had a little better luck You just called and just hung it up One of us has had enough It's true as far as a lot of stuff You could have had a little better luck You just called and just hung it up Baby both of us have had enough

Seems like time's running out on you Had too many things to do Have some fun with them if they're new And throw 'em away before you've paid your due Onto the next thing, don't smell the dew Watch them run around like a Human Zoo Don't vaccinate the kids because it's trendy to do Who cares if they all get the flu The longer it takes, they move on from you They say alot of things, don't care if it's true Users and abusers claim that they're glue Sitting with your critics as if you never knew Just to pretend your dreams are crazy and blue Badmouth all night, hide in plain sight Getting tired so I'll bid adieu Scratch and claw cuz you got a weak jaw We All Know What's Coming at 2

So It Goes 03:18
Blind on I-70, Payin the Penalty Drive through the night, blurred lines in sight Take the long road, brains on overload Trying to make somewhere stick, but the world just makes you sick, The slush and snow is getting thick But so it goes Broken down, tossed around Move to LA to chase a sound Vultures tally, gotta rally Hope we die in the Valley A melancholy guitar tone, it tells you to go home It's been too far for you to roam But so it goes City on A Hill Everything to be fulfilled Is the cup half empty still? Does the green river run? is Kingston still fun? If this is wrong, can it be undone? So it goes Bring it back around, the Brown Line rattle Twinkles of the light, Molina's West Side fight Did he see the same end of night? Facing a blistering wind, pierced from deep within We all need a win, so life can just begin But my heart says come home, you won't feel so alone So it goes So it goes So it goes

Livin' Life on Easy Street Bums and beggars to compete and compete But hey the rent appears to be pretty cheap When you're living, it keeps going on Smokin' pot in a half paid flat Neighbors, they don't want none of that They talk this and that, this and that, this and that When you're living, it keeps going on No one seems to remember, Days before easy bank lenders Some virtual reality you rendered on Blendr When you're living, it keeps going on Living life on Easy st, Even now the days are hard to beat When you want more from life than living cheap When you're dead, it keeps going on it keeps going on

Back in the old folky days The air was magic when we played The riverboat was rocking in the rain Midnight was the time for the raid Oh, Isabela, proud Isabela They tore you down and plowed you under You're only real with your make-up on How could I see you and stay too long? All along the Navajo Trail Burn-outs stub their toes On garbage pails Waitresses are crying in the rain Will their boyfriends pass this way again? Oh, Mother Goose, she's on the skids Shoe ain't happy, neither are the kids She needs someone that she can scream at And I'm such a heel for making her feel so bad I guess I'll call it sickness gone It's hard to say the meaning of this song An ambulance can only go so fast It's easy to get buried in the past When you try to make a good thing last I saw today in the entertainment section There's room at the top for private detection To Mom and Dad this just doesn't matter But it's either that or pay off the kidnapper So all you critics sit alone You're no better than me for what you've shown With your stomach pump and your hook and ladder dreams We could get together for some scenes Well, I'm up in T.O. keeping jive alive And out on the corner it's half past five But the subways are empty And so are the cafes Except for the Farmer's Market And I still can hear him say: You're all just pissing in the wind You don't know it but you are And there ain't nothing like a friend Who can tell you you're just pissing in the wind I never knew a man could tell so many lies He had a different story for every set of eyes How can he remember who he's talking to? Because I know it ain't me and I hope it isn't you

10 PM Town 03:42
Cover your children in packing foam Who could think they could stray from home The safety of never thinking on their own Helps to build that censorship throne How could you expect them to have grown? Societal War Zone,This 10 PM Town So hand out a trophy to Little Miss Murphy Who never deserved it to own But what about the feelings? Who cares if she's stealing from someone whose worked to the bone Societal War Zone, This 10 PM Town You better leave that 10 pm Town Let those clowns have their fake crowns To never take a risk, their life behind a disk Something they won't miss, a simulated risk But their souls are bleeding, they're pleading for meaning in that 10 PM Town But their souls are bleeding, they're pleading for meaning in that 10 PM Town

What glistens isn't gold, why weren't you told It doesn't have to be A life ain't pretty, it gets pretty shitty, but where else would you want to be? To be with good friends in a distant land, can take away the feeling of quick sand It ain't so bad so why are you sad You've had good friends on the way The reaper has a say so don't make it grey You'll waste your time before you go away You've got friends in Campinas, and they couldn't beat us Cuz today is a brand new day I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down It might bring a ring for a friend far from home Or a decades old squabble from an old woman who doddles and pretends that she's all alone Don't wait in the dark for the song of a lark whose singing a different tune Go find your Campinas, where they can't beat us I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down It's not a good poem but it'll sure shown 'em We're taking our worlds today I got friends at my back and I'm ready for the attack From Campinas to my mobile home I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down I don't know what tomorrow will show but i'm going down, down, down

about

This album is a culmination of a year of extensive work from musicians we have met in all walks of our lives. We were able to get 9 cities and 2 countries worth of musicians on this project, from Chicago to Boston, NYC to LA, Philadelphia to Albany, Indiana to Connecticut, and as far away as Campinas, SP, Brazil. This album is called Collective because it's truly a collection of our experiences, our friends and supporters, and a testament to the things we've picked up along the weird route that took us to all of those places. It also calls to how Chicago, our hometown, is a collection of neighborhoods and styles of music from Blues to Rap to House, and people from all walks of life. It calls throughout to what Chicago has meant to us as a home city, as well as the realization that our life and musical experiences in our home and throughout the world have been a true Collective.
